Our Great Night at the Nature Museum
Thanks to all the urban sketchers who came out in the cold on January 31st and thanks to the great staff at the Canadian Nature Museum! Here are some photos and sketches from our evening.

January 2019: Urban Sketching Moves Indoors
Ottawa had the dubious distinction of being the coldest capital in the world in January 2019 ("clocking in about 20 degrees colder than winter heavyweights like Moscow
and Helsinki, and even edging out perpetual champ Ulan Bator, Mongolia,
by a degree". Source: The Weather Network.)
And thats not all!
Low temperatures combined with nearly 30 cm of snow reported at
Ottawa Airport last weekend, set the city up to chalk up another unusual milestone -- the coldest snowstorm in more than 100 years.
And I haven't even mentioned the winds of 30-50 km/hr!

A Great Day at the National Art Centre
The Ottawa Urban Sketchers enjoyed a great day sketching at the National Art Centre (NAC)! There were lots of familiar faces and lots of new faces as well. We had one urban sketcher from Spain join us and an art teacher joined us with several of her students.

We are inviting ALL urban sketchers in Ottawa to join us on June 28, 2018 between 5 and 8 pm for this FREE evening of sketching at Canada's War Museum.
An exhibition developed by Contemporanea Progetti in collaboration
with the Museo Stibbert (Florence, Italy) about "Armour" recently opened at the Canadian War Museum on June 15, 2018.
Armour is a fascinating display of protective gear used by knights, soldiers, athletes and actors through time.

The 56th World Wide SketchCrawl in Ottawa
On Saturday July 29, 2017the Ottawa Urban Sketchers participated in the 56th WW SketchCrawl from 10 to 4 pm.
We started our SketchCrawl at the National Gallery of Canada and many sketchers chose to sketch "Maman: while other sketchers went to the Byward Market to sketch Le Machine - Kumo and LongMa - who were still "sleeping".

Other sketchers chose the Notre Dame Cathedral and other historic buildings along Sussex. Some even sketched the National Art Gallery and our youngest sketcher (7 years old) did a sketch of the Parliament buildings.

Some sketchers headed off to Spark Street for some lunch while others went on to sketch at the National War Monument and elsewhere.

Then everyone headed over to the market to gather in front of the Ottawa School of art near the end of the day.
More sketchers joined us in front of the Ottawa School of art we were delighted to have another young sketcher join our group!
