The Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG) is a municipal gallery in Ottawa that originally opened in 1988 at Arts Court. After almost three years of construction, the NEW OAG opened April 2018 next to Arts Court expanding gallery space from 10,000 to 55,000 square feet.

The new art gallery has plenty of airy spaces, natural light and much more room for art and social activities. And that's not all! The OAG also offers:
  • Free admission.
  • Open every night until 9 p.m.
  • A barrier-free environment.
  • Gender-neutral washrooms.
  • Haptic tours for people with vision loss.
  • And free childcare during opening receptions, as well as from 4 to 7 p.m. every Wednesday.
What an amazing space to visit and what a great place to sketch!

Meet at the Hangar

On Saturday Dec 1st, the front desk will let the Ottawa Urban Sketchers into the Hangar (beside the studio). You can leave your coats here while we sketch.

There Are Some Stools Available

There are stools located in some of the galleries—30 total, 10 in the Firestone, 10 in Spencerville, and 10 elsewhere. You are welcome to bring your own stool if you prefer.

 Note: Use Dry Media Only

There is no wet media allowed in the galleries (ie. Ink, watercolour, paint). Sketchbooks, pencil, pen, charcoal, etc. are all fine as long as nobody is touching the work, the walls, or using plinths as tables (this is particularly pertinent in the Karim Rashid show where the display plinths of designed objects seem like a natural place to leave things).
